What A Week

This was the week that we got right down to the ol' nitty gritty and started acting like an editorial group of journalists with an amazing radio show to put together.

I think the first reality smack of what we're actually doing here got to both me and the Upstart group.

There was excitement at the discussion of the various show roles, with dreams coming true at the mention of anchoring. There was a little bit of fear during discussions of how we could possibly fill an hour with good content for the youth of Grahamstown. There was even more fear at the assignment of the first official interviews for the show that we told them to go home and conduct.
From my side, there was sheer and utter surprise when listening to the first set of recordings of interviews with friends. There was mountains of potential and most imporrtantly there was that ever appearing sense of excitement from the pupils at the thought of the awesome project that they are involved in.

My personal highlights for this particular week were Subisiso's brilliant radio talks she read from a Life Orientation project she had done last year. These were a great idea as they dealt with issues that we've been discussing and meaning to tackle and this showed that they are relevant to this particular group and their peers and she read them with such great flair it was hard to believe that she hadn't done this before.

Another highlight is the relationship that is building between Ross and myself and the group and sometimes we may forget that we may serve as role models for them judging by the amount of questions we get about our lives and university and our own futures. But we can also laugh and joke with them like friends. I think this dynamic is going to make for a particularly good show overall because we'll be combining our journalistic skills with the insight and natural knowledge of the Upstart group.
